Journey Upward

Cave Kids Program

Cave Juniors (4-8 years old)
Designed for younger kids, the Cave Juniors program aims to establish critical fundamentals:
  1. Getting kids comfortable with contact: Gaining comfort with increasing levels of physicality through safe, effective and fun games.
  2. Basic skills: Learning fundamentals, including takedowns, escapes, as well as how to fall safely and defend a punch.
  3. Life Skills: Introducing yourself to new kids properly, listening carefully, following directions, waiting their turn, and respecting their classmates, teachers and parents. Gaining confidence to defend themselves against bullies with their words first and their physical skills second.

Class Structure: This class is designed to be high paced and fun, leaving the kids tired and happy at the end. Belt ranks and stripes are awarded for progress in their technique, behavior, and character. It's a mix of serious discipline, important skills, and goofy games.

This class focuses on the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, wrestling and self defense.
  1. Technique: Takedowns, throws, how to control their opponent, and how to apply submissions.
  2. Maturity: Focus, perseverance, work ethic, strategies and tactics for competition and self-defense.
  3. Self Defense: Learn basic self defense techniques and situational awareness. Practice strategies for dealing with bullying and de-escalating volatile situations.

Kids Competition Team
Our Kids Competition team meets Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm. This class is predominantly No-Gi (Without the uniform) and emphasizes the interplay between Wrestling and Jiu-jitsu. It is a harder class with very high expectations of attitude, effort, and behavior. This class is open to students who are approved by Sensei Mike. If you want to attend, ask him.
